Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Admission of Women to FCA.

Liz McManus

Question:

22 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Defence the number of women who have applied to join the FCA; the number who have been accepted so far; if his attention has been drawn to any delays being experienced in regard to the admission of women to the FCA; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The number of women who have applied to join the FCA to date is 1,218. A total of 358 women have been enlisted in the FCA in the period from 1991 to date. Recruitment of women to the FCA first commenced in 1991 when 200 women were enlisted. A further 158 women who had been on a waiting list since 1991 have been enlisted in the FCA this year. It is proposed that a further intake of female recruits will commence in May 1993.
