Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rogerstown (Dublin) Estuary.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

95 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance the areas, if any, of Rogerstown Estuary, County Dublin which are included in the ASI areas of scientific interest category.

The areas of Rogerstown Estuary which are of scientific or conservation interest comprise all the intertidal mudflats in the outer and inner estuary, all shoreline vegetation, the saltmarsh at Portrane and some damp fields in the inner estuary. It is an area of international importance for birds and comprises 400 hectares approximately. The area of the dump is not of scientific interest.

Rogerstown Estuary will be included in the nationwide resurvey of areas of scientific interest which is being carried out this year.

This survey involves updating existing boundaries, re-mapping sites and designating them as natural heritage areas if they meet the necessary criteria.
