The Government has approved the content of a Bill which will replace the Animal Remedies Act, 1956, and provide for the regulation and control of all aspects of the availability and use of animal remedies. The issue of illegal use of substances such as growth promoters is addressed by providing for strong powers of enforcement and severe penalties for convicted offenders.
Arrangements are in hand for the publication of the Bill, which is entitled the Animal Remedies Bill, 1993, and copies will be available to members of this House shortly.
