Question:

37 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when he intends to reintroduce the land drainage grant which is of vital importance and assistance to farmers in difficult drumlin soil type areas such as counties Cavan and Monaghan.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 20 and 37 together.

In line with recent EC policy, grant aid for drainage is limited to works of a minor nature carried out in association with land reclamation under the Farm Improvement Programme.

I am aware of the importance of maintenance drainage on farms and I am considering if this aspect can be accommodated in the submission to the EC being prepared by the Government on the post - 1993 allocation of Structural Funds.
