Vol. 429 No. 6

Written Answers. - Driving Pattern Charges.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

131 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Environment if any surveys have been carried out by his Department or other bodies with regard to changing driving patterns in Ireland from left to right to coincide with those on the European mainland; the estimated cost of introducing such a change; the long term implications for motorists if such a change were to be introduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No detailed assessment of the implications, including cost implications, of a change to driving on the right side of the road has been carried out by my Department and I am not aware of any such studies carried out by other bodies. I have no proposals to amend existing road traffic regulations in this respect.
