Vol. 429 No. 6

Written Answers. - Navan Road (Dublin) Improvement Scheme.

Austin Currie

Question:

137 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that residents in the Mulhuddart area of Dublin 15 have been suffering from noise nuisance since the opening of the new Navan road; and if he will give a positive response to the request from Dublin County Council for grants to the affected residents for additional insulation.

The Navan Road improvement scheme was designed to reduce, as far as possible, the effect of noise in residential areas. Noise abatement measures, such as the provision of mounds, walls and other landscaping works, have been provided and have been funded from road grants. Dublin County Council made a request to my Department for funding towards the provision of double glazing to houses adjacent to the road. The council has been advised that this is not an acceptable charge against road grants and that compensation is payable only to persons from whom property is compulsorily acquired.
