Vol. 429 No. 6

Written Answers. - Enniscorthy (Wexford) District Veterinary Office.

Ivan Yates

Question:

245 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will clarify the situation in relation to the future of the district veterinary office in Enniscorthy, County Wexford; if he will give an undertaking that it will remain there and that none of the staff will be obliged to move to alternative office accommodation; if he will further clarify the situation in relation to the suggestions that it is to be relocated in Portlaoise, County Laois; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has no plans to relocate the district veterinary office or to transfer staff from Enniscorthy. In order to implement some of the measures agreed under the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy, arrangements are underway to recruit additional staff and to centralise the administrative operations of the special beef premium scheme in Portlaoise. That office will be staffed by officials who volunteer for transfer to that location.
