Vol. 429 No. 6

Written Answers. - Comptroller and Auditor General (Amendment) Bill, 1992.

Peter Barry

Question:

78 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Finance if he has had discussions with the union representing auditors of the Department of the Environment concerning the implications of the Comptroller and Auditor General (Amendment) Bill, 1992 prior to the circulation of the Bill; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has been in correspondence with the unions concerned and has indicated its readiness to discuss the implications of the Bill for the local government auditors. In addition, Minister of State Fitzgerald along with officials of my Department met, at their request, members of the union branch concerned, prior to the reintroduction of the Bill in Dáil Éireann following the recent general election, for discussions on its terms.
