Vol. 429 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Clare Garda Station.

Donal Carey

Question:

63 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to the public concern at the proposed downgrading by the Garda Commissioner of Sixmilebridge Garda Station in County Clare, where only one officer will be stationed in the future; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The allocation of staffing resources is a matter for Garda management who make their decisions on the basis of their best professional judgement as to the requirements of particular areas from time to time. Various factors are taken into account — a relevant consideration in the case of Sixmilebridge, for example, is the fact that policing can readily be augmented by the Divisional service if required. The Garda authorities have informed me that the position at Sixmilebridge will be kept under review.
