Vol. 429 No. 7

Written Answers. - Women on Semi-State Boards.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

73 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice if she will give a list of the semi-State boards under her aegis where the 40 per cent quota of women has been adhered to by the Government since it accepted the recommendations of the first statement of the Commission on the Status of Women in April, 1991; and if she will further list the boards where the quota has fallen below 40 per cent.

There are no semi-state boards under the aegis of my Department.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

74 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will give a list of the semi-State boards under his aegis where the 40 per cent quota of women has been adhered to by the Government since it accepted the recommendations of the first statement of the Commission on the Status of Women in April, 1991; and if he will further list the boards where the quota has fallen below 40 per cent.

Unfortunately none of the semi-State boards within my area of responsibility has reached the recommendation for a minimum 40 per cent quota of women which was originally accepted by the Government in 1991. However, I would like to point out that no vacancies have arisen on these boards since this Government took office which would have allowed a commencement to be made in redressing this imbalance.

I have issued instructions that all future recommendations for nominations within my Department reflect the desire to achieve the 40 per cent quota. Nominating bodies, where relevant, will also be requested to assist in achieving the quota.
