Vol. 429 No. 7

Written Answers. - Adoption Acts.

John Bruton

Question:

107 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Health the plans, if any, he has to amend and update the Adoption Acts; and if he will give details of the nature of the changes, if any, he has in mind.

While I have no immediate plans to introduce new adoption legislation, the position will be kept under review in the light of developments in the adoption area. In this context, I might mention that my Department will be meeting the Adoption Board shortly to discuss proposals for the establishment of a national adoption contact register to assist adopted persons and birth parents wishing to be put in touch with one another. Such a development may require amending legislation.
