Vol. 429 No. 8

Written Answers. - Kildare Sewerage Schemes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

53 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment the number and location of sewerage schemes submitted to his Department by Kildare County Council and currently awaiting sanction; when each request was received; when it is expected to approve each project; if it is expected to accept the recommended tender in each case; if it is intended to depart from this; if he will list the number of instances in the past three years wherein the recommended tender was not accepted; the reasons for this; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are no tender proposals from Kildare County Council awaiting approval in my Department other than the Robertstown sewerage scheme, a proposal for which was received on 12 February, 1993. As explained in reply to Question No. 249 of 23 March 1993, I am not yet in a position to approve this scheme.

Only once in the past three years has a tender proposal from Kildare County Council not been accepted by my Department; the case involved was the initial recommendation on the Robertstown scheme which was received on 26 August, 1991. The Department's position in this instance was that the local authority's proposal had not been adequately justified. The proposal was subsequently withdrawn.
