Vol. 430 No. 2

Written Answers. - Health Boards' Allocations.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

28 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Health if he intends to review the recently announced non-capital allocation to health boards for the current year.

Following the notification of 1993 allocations to health boards in March I met the chairman and chief executive officer of each board to discuss the allocations. At these meetings I emphasised the Government's determination that expenditure should be contained within approved limits during 1993. The health board representatives committed themselves to cooperating fully with this objective.

During the past two weeks officials of my Department have again met officers of each health board to discuss their plans for the provision of services based on the already notified allocations for 1993. While it is still early in the year I am confident that the steps being taken by health boards in relation to the control of expenditure will be successful.

I do not, therefore, propose to review the allocations as notified.
