Question:91 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the number of child sexual abuse cases which were reported; and the number of abuse cases confirmed after investigation, in each of the years from 1984 to 1991.
Written Answers. - Child Sexual Abuse.
The following table sets out on a national basis details of the number of child sexual abuse cases reported to the health boards and the number of such cases confirmed in respect of the years 1985 to 1989 and for the year 1991.
Figures in relation to 1984 are not available as the collection of information on reports of child sexual abuse did not begin until 1985. Figures for the year 1990 were not collected pending a detailed review of the questionnaire used in the survey. The review has resulted in more comprehensive information being submitted by health boards.
