Vol. 430 No. 6

Written Answers. - Beaumont (Dublin) School.

Tony Gregory

Question:

94 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education if she has received a request for a meeting with the parents of pupils of St. Paul's Special School, Beaumont, Dublin 9, regarding the provision of an adolescent unit there; and, if so, if a meeting will be arranged.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

96 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education if she has considered a request for a meeting from parents of children attending a special school for mentally handicapped children (details supplied) to discuss the provision of an adolescent unit for the school; her views on whether an adolescent unit is needed at this school; and, if she has not already done so, if she will have arrangements made to meet the parents to discuss the matter with them.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 94 and 96 together.

My Department has received correspondence from a representative of parents whose adolescent children are attending St. Paul's Special School, Beaumont, Dublin 9, requesting that specific educational provision be made for this group.

The special education review committee will be considering the question of educational provision for children with disabilities, including those who are emotionally disturbed, and I will be considering what additional measures are required in the light of the committee's recommendations.

In the meantime, I am arranging for officials of my Department to meet representatives of the parents concerned to enable them to discuss their proposals fully.
