Vol. 431 No. 1

Written Answers. - Funding For Road Repairs.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

38 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for the Environment if he will allow Monaghan County Council to borrow finance to fund necessary road repairs in the county as has already been requested by the Council.

The council's request for sanction to borrow £1.25 million to undertake a programme of surface dressing on county roads has been refused because it is not the practice to approve the raising of loans for non-capital purposes. The capacity of the council to meet the loan charges that would arise, while at the same time continuing to provide the full range of essential services, was also taken into account.
