Vol. 431 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authorities' Personnel Gender.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

48 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for the Environment the numbers of men and women employed in senior posts in local authorities.

Complete information on the numbers of men and women employed in various posts in local authorities is being compiled in my Department from staffing returns received from local authorities. This will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as possible. I can state, however, that no woman is employed in the grades of City/County Manager or Assistant Manager, County Secretary, or City/County Engineer.

As regards the filling of posts under local authorities and measures to facilitate the career development of women, I refer to the reply to Question No. 112 of 5 May, 1993.
