Vol. 431 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation of Government Departments.

Alan Shatter

Question:

62 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Finance if civil servants in grades such as Staff Officer, Executive Officer or Higher Executive Officer who have applied for transfer to decentralised locations under the Government's decentralisation programme have priority for selection over those who have been placed on promotion panels specifically established under the decentralisation programme to cope with the shortfall of volunteers; and, if not, the cost implications of this.

All posts at designated locations under the Government's decentralisation programme are filled in the first instance on a voluntary basis. If enough volunteers are forthcoming in the grades referred to it is not necessary to fill posts by promotion, so that the cost implications referred to would not arise.
