Vol. 431 No. 1

Written Answers. - Government Airport Tax.

Liz McManus

Question:

65 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Finance the EC countries which have a Government airport tax, and whether such tax applies to the nationals of these countries.

The information requested is not immediately available; however, it is being sought from the other member states of the EC and I will forward it to the Deputy as soon as it comes to hand.

The position in Ireland is that a travel tax of £5 applies to passenger tickets issued in the State for travel, whether by sea or by air, to a destination outside the State, other than to Northern Ireland. Children under two years of age, persons confined to wheelchairs or stretchers, persons who suffer from serious physical or mental disability travelling by chartered flight to an internationally recognised place of religious pilgrimage and groups of schoolchildren travelling abroad for educational purposes are exempted from the tax.
