Vol. 431 No. 1

Written Answers. - Temporary Convenience Agreement.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

109 Ms. Shortall asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will give the basis for correspondence (details supplied) from him which refers to a signature on a temporary convenience agreement in 1946 when in fact, the alleged signatory died four years earlier.

The operative events in this case took place some 40 years ago and full records on it are no longer available. Consequently, it is not possible to provide a detailed account of the history of the case.

From the limited information available it appears that an agreement was signed on 7 November 1946 and that the lands were vested in the deceased's widow on 13 July 1954. There is no clear indication as to who actually signed the agreement and in the absence of information to the contrary it was assumed that the individual referred to by the Deputy was the signatory. This assumption, through understandable, was mistaken and is regretted.
