Vol. 431 No. 1

Written Answers. - Land Annuity.

Colm M. Hilliard

Question:

117 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when farmers will be notified of the land annuity deal terms which were agreed in 1992; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Each farmer with a Land Annuity of £20 or more per annum should by now have been advised by letter of the amount which would need to be paid by 31 May, 1993 to clear off the annuity in full — this amount reflects the 50 per cent discount buy-out offer announced on 23 September 1992.

If any farmer with an annuity of £20 or more per annum has not received this letter because, for example, of a change of address that was not notified to my Department or for any other reason, he/she should contact by telephone or in writing the Collection Division of my Department, Michael Davitt House, Castlebar, County Mayo (Telephone 094-21100) as soon as possible and should quote the Receivable Order Number of the Land Annuity in question so that a replacement letter can issue quickly.
The annuity buy-out discount offer ends on 31 May 1993 so farmers wishing to take advantage of it would need to ensure that their payments reach the Collection Division of my Department in Castlebar by that date.
Farmers with Land Annuities of less than £20 per annum need not make any further payments on foot of these annuities from 1 May 1993 onwards as the annuities concerned have been written off with effect from that date.
