Written Answers. - Western Health Board Day Care Service.

Question:

196 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of the day care service provided by the Western Health Board to enable senior citizens to remain in their own homes rather than admission to geriatric homes.

The Western Health Board provides Day Care Centres at 28 locations throughout the region and a total of 65,075 day care days were provided throughout 1992.

In addition the Board also provides a meal service at 31 centres and a total of 87,741 meals were provided in 1992.

The Board also operates a boarding out scheme for the elderly and a total of 64 persons are currently availing of this scheme. Older people in the Western Health Board area also avail of the Public Health Nursing Service, General Practitioner Service and Home Help Service. In 1992 a total of 1,362 elderly people benefitted from the Home Help Service.
