Vol. 431 No. 3

Written Answers. - Irradiated Food Imports.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

54 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will give details of the sources of any irradiated food that is currently being imported into Ireland.

This not a matter for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

56 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will make a statement on the recent media report in the Irish Farmers Journal that the EC Structural Fund allocation to agricultural and rural development will drop from the present 18 per cent to 12.5 per cent for the period from 1994 to 1999.

The position as regards Structural Funds in the 1994-1999 period is that the Government has not yet made a decision as to how the funds should be apportioned. In these circumstances, it would not be appropriate for me to comment on the media report to which the Deputy refers. I expect that the allocation for my Department will reflect the importance of agriculture, food, forestry and the rural economy generally in Irish life.
