Vol. 431 No. 3

Written Answers. - Commonage Division.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

57 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he has satisfied himself with the progress of work in relation to title, division of commonage and other such matters, formerly under the aegis of the Land Commission and now under the control of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Having regard to the large number of cases on hands, the legal and technical complexities often involved and the budgetary constraints which limit the resources available, good progress is being made in clearing the work on hands in the areas referred to by the Deputy. Nevertheless, I am conscious that long delays are being experienced by some individuals awaiting title to former Land Commission land and to plots from divided commonages. I am seeking to have the work expedited to ensure that all Land Commission allottees and all former shareholders in commonages divided with the assistance of the Commission have obtained title to their new lands at as early a date as possible.
