Vol. 431 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tuam (Galway) Sewerage Scheme.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

132 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for the Environment if funding will be made available for the proposed extension of the sewerage scheme at Lower Ballygaddy, Tuam, County Galway; if his attention has been drawn to the hardship that is caused to local residents because of the lack of a proper sewerage scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Galway County Council submitted proposals to my Department to extend the Tuam sewerage scheme, which is under construction at present, to serve additional areas of the town, including the Lower Ballygaddy area. Having regard to the overall demands on the water and sanitary services programme, I am not in a position to approve these proposals and the county council were notified accordingly in April 1992. The proposals are more appropriate for consideration in the context of the planning and development of the next phase of the scheme.
