134 Ms McManus asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received a report from the Universities Research Group for the Environment; if so, if he will give his views on the points that are contained in the report in relation to EC Structural Funds; and the way in which he intends to proceed on the points raised.
I have received a report from the Universities Research Group, proposing the establishment of a Sustainability Fund, assisted by Structural Funds, with the objective of supporting research, development and innovation to maximise sustainable development of Ireland's environment assets. The strategy adopted, identifying priority themes and needs, is consistent with Community and national policy on the integration of environmental considerations and sectoral development activities. I am considering the report, which I understand was also submitted to and is being examined by, a number of other Ministers, in the context of the preparation of the National Development Plan.
