Question:64 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he has any plans to increase production of seed potatoes for export.
Written Answers. - Seed Potatoes.
The volume of production in seed potatoes is primarily a matter for producers and commercial interests. However, a number of services are provided to the industry by State agencies with a view to assisting the development and expansion of the sector. My Department operates the seed potato certification scheme and arranges for the provision of pre-basic seed. Apart from this advisory role Teagasc continues its successful potato breeding programme. An Bord Glas has formulated a seed potato development programme and is in the process of implementing this.
