Michael Noonan

Question:

57 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the steps, if any, he has taken to ensure that an industrial tariff applicable to all customers of Bord Gáis Éireann will be published by June 1993.

Michael Noonan

Question:

61 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he has drawn up a code of practice to apply to both Bord Gáis and its competitors in respect of the transparency of industrial tariffs; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 57 and 61 together.

I understand that Bord Gáis Éireann proposes to introduce a revised tariff structure for industrial and commercial customers shortly. Regarding the decision of the Government in relation to the recommendation of the Moriarty Task Force — that BGE's industrial tariffs should be made more transparent — this was on the basis that its competitors should do likewise with their tariffs. The code of practice referred to was intended to be agreed between Bord Gáis Éireann and its competitors, but my understanding is that BGE's revised tariff structure will be introduced in any event.
