Vol. 431 No. 7

Written Answers - Taxi and Hackney Licences.

Paul Bradford

Question:

62 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for the Environment if further taxi plate licences and hackney licences will be issued during 1993.

The Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) Regulations provide, in relation to all taximeter areas other than the Dublin taximeter area, that new taxi licences may be granted where the relevant local authority has made a determination authorising the granting of such licences. A decision to authorise new taxi licences in 1993 in those areas is accordingly a matter for the relevant local authorities. The power to authorise new taxi licences for the Dublin taximeter area is currently vested in the Minister for the Environment. I have no proposals at this stage to authorise extra taxi licences for that area.

There are no numerical restrictions on the granting of new private hire (hackney) licences.
