Vol. 432 No. 1

Written Answers. - Culliton Report.

John Bruton

Question:

171 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he has any proposals to introduce legislation to deal with any aspect of the Government decisions on the Culliton report; and if so, if he will give details of the proposed legislation.

All of the recommendations made by the Culliton group in relation to my area of responsibiity were transferred either by the Culliton group itself or by the Moriarty task force for further examination and/or action by the expert group on the food industry which I set up last year. As the Deputy is aware, the expert group recently submitted its report and recommendations to me. I have just completed a full examination of these recommendations and will shortly submit my proposals for dealing with them to the Government for approval. Until that approval has been obtained I am not in a position to say whether or when I will be introducing legislation to deal with any particular aspects of the recommendations.
