Vol. 432 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cork School Appointment.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

231 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education when she intends to appoint a disadvantaged teacher to a school (details supplied) in County Cork.

The school referred to by the Deputy is already included in the disadvantaged areas scheme and as such has been allocated a shared concessionary teaching post and receives supplementary capitation funding amounting to £17 per pupil.

As already announced in the House, I am allocating additional ex-quota teaching posts to schools in disadvantaged areas with effect from September, 1993. This will allow for the inclusion of additional schools within the Disadvantaged Areas Scheme. Part of this allocation will also be used to provide additional concessionary posts to larger schools already included in the scheme and schools in the scheme which have particular needs at this time.

Decisions on the selection of schools to receive these extra posts will be taken shortly and the needs of the school mentioned by the Deputy will be fully considered in this context.
