Vol. 432 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Kildare Post-Primary Schools.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

257 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the extent to which she expects to meet the need for extra or improved facilities at post-primary schools in County Kildare during the remainder of 1993; the location for such works; if the necessary funds are available; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

There are no major post-primary school projects scheduled to proceed in the remainder of 1993 in County Kildare. Architectural planning of extensions for Maynooth Post-Primary School and CBS Naas are proceeding, but these projects are not included in the 1993 capital programme. A major proposal from Newbridge College is also currently being examined by my Department.

Requests for additional accommodation at Holy Family Secondary School Newbridge and Castledermot Vocational School are currently being considered by my Department with a view to the provision of any accommodation warranted in time for the new school year in September, 1993.

Requests for upgrading of facilities at Curragh Vocational School, Athy Vocational School and Maynooth Post-Primary School are currently being considered by my Department.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

258 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if she has evaluated the extent of improved facilities required at primary schools in County Kildare; the extent to which such requests are likely to be met during the school holidays; the locations at which they are to be done; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Major building projects are already underway, are in course of planning or are under consideration at the following national schools in County Kildare: Brownstown, The Curragh; Churchtown, Athy; Scoil Ui Dhálaigh, Leixlip; Allen; Hewetson; Kilmead; Rathcoffey; Ardclough; Sallins; Ballymany; Newbridge; Scoil Ui Riada, Kilcock; Monastervan C.B.S.; Confey; Kilcullen; Tiermohan; Kilshanroe; Ticknevin; Monasterevan Convent; Naas Convent; Kildare Convent; Crookstown; Maynooth Girls' and Boys'; Curragh Boys'; Ardclough and Newtown.

Numerous minor improvement works are carried out on an ongoing basis at various schools throughout the country. It would not be possible to give specific details of these minor works as it would require an inordinate amount of staff time to procure this information.

Building and improvement works at national schools are initiated on the basis of applications by the school authorities for grant-aid towards works which they consider necessary.
