Question:

30 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the projected cost of new primary and secondary schools or extension of facilities at such existing schools in respect of which all planning/ developmental stages have already been cleared; the extent to which she intends to allow actual works to commence on these projects in the current year; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

In my reply to Question No. 164 of 10 March 1993 I gave details of the major projects at primary and secondary level which I had cleared to proceed to construction on the basis of capital allocations of £18.7 million and £24.5 million for the respective capital programmes this year.

These projects were selected following a review which was carried out once the allocation for 1993 had been made. This review took account of the allocation available, the projects demanding inclusion in the programme within that allocation and the respective priority accorded to these projects.
