Vol. 432 No. 1

Written Answers. - Road Safety Feature.

Tony Gregory

Question:

123 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works who are currently working on the Royal Canal at Cross Guns Bridge, Dublin 7, will replace the broken down bollards with a low wall between the bridge and the Dakota factory as there have been many accidents there, two of which were fatal, as the roadway is heavily used by cars and other traffic.

The bollards in question are a safety feature along the division between the Royal Canal Bank and a roadway which runs from Cross Guns Bridge down to and beyond the Dakota Factory. This roadway is part of the public road network and, as such, is the responsibility of the road authority. Dublin Corporation are responsible for the care and maintenance of the road including safety features such as the bollards in this case and I am arranging to have the Deputy's request for the prevention of a low wall brought to their attention.
