Question:

87 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Thames Water in London propose to generate 18 mw of electricity from sewage gas or to any studies conducted into the potential for electricity generation from Dublin's sewage and putrescible municipal waste.

Consultant engineers have been appointed by Dublin Corporation to examine the sludge management and disposal options for the Howth and Rings-end secondary treatment plants. These options include recycling, digesting, composting, incineration and other options including the generation of electricity from the gaseous by-products of the treatment process.
