Vol. 432 No. 2

Written Answers. - Harbour Boards Members' Expenses.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

94 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Marine if he will introduce legislation to amend the Harbours Act, 1947, to permit payments of expenses to members of harbour boards for attendance at meetings if their residence is less than three miles from the place of meeting; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is not my intention to introduce legislation to amend the regulations governing the payment of expenses to members of harbour authorities as set out under the Harbours Act, 1947.

As the Deputy will no doubt be aware, legislation to implement the key recommendations of the Commercial Harbours Review Group is being prepared at present. In the event of this legislation being passed, the arrangements for payment of expenses would become a matter for the new boards.
