Vol. 432 No. 2

Written Answers. - Office Supplies and Equipment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

98 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the degree to which Irish manufactured office supplies and equipment, including computer supplies, are provided to his Department or to offices the Estimate for which falls within his group; the extent to which such requirements are met by overseas manufacturers where Irish alternatives exist; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Precise details of the manufacturers of equipment are not readily available. Office and computer equipment and supplies can be made up of various components and consequently details of Irish or non-Irish input is unavailable. All office supplies and equipment, including computer supplies, provided to my Department are bought under standard tendering and Government contract procedures. Tenders for equipment where the value is above the ceiling laid down in EC Directives on Public Procurement are advertised in the Official Journal of the European Communities.

Question:

99 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the degree to which Irish manufactured office supplies and equipment, including computer supplies, are provided to his Department or to offices the Estimate for which falls within his group; the extent to which such requirements are met by overseas manufacturers where Irish alternatives exist; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Purchases of office supplies and equipment, including computer supplies, by my Department since its establishment on 21 January 1993 have been made in accordance with both Government and EC contracting rules and procedures. Purchases have been predominantly from firms located in Ireland.

It is not the practice to keep detailed information on the location of manufacture of the goods purchased.

The provision of office supplies and equipment to the semi-State bodies under the aegis of my Department is a day-to-day matter for each of the bodies concerned.
