Vol. 432 No. 2

Written Answers. - Special Stamps Programme.

Michael Noonan

Question:

103 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will introduce a pro-health anti-smoking postage stamp; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that other countries have published such stamps; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A stamp on the subject of healthy lifestyles was issued by An Post in March 1992 as part of the 1992 programme of special stamps.

To allow sufficient time for publicity, design and printing purposes each annual stamp programme has to be finalised well in advance of the year of issue. The stamp programmes for 1993 and 1994 have already been approved. Both my Department and the Department of Health have suggested to An Post that the company should consider the inclusion in the 1995 stamp programme of a stamp on the dangers of passive smoking.
