Dáil Éireann debate -

Vol. 432 No. 3

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

Before coming to the Order of Business proper I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 30 from Deputy John Bruton. I call Deputy Bruton to state the matter of which he has given me notice.

In view of the continuing accumulation of losses by Aer Lingus and the proximity of the Dáil recess, I submit that the Dáil should adjourn to debate a motion under Standing Order 30 asking that the Aer Lingus rescue package by debated in Dáil Éireann before being put into effect and that its contents should be made available at the same time and under the same conditions to all Members of the House who are not members of the Government. I submit this is a specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent consideration.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

There are quite a number of Deputies present who would agree that the motion should be moved.

This is an ongoing matter and there are ample ways for Deputies to raise the matter——

I am delighted to tell Deputy Bruton that the Joint Committee on Commercial State-Sponsored Bodies agreed that next Tuesday by the latest officials of Aer Lingus will be brought before the committee, together with an opportunity for the representative central council——

(Interruptions).

Another week, another excuse.

The Deputy never gave that much information when he was Minister.

That is another diversion to another airport.
