Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Deenihan — the need for action to protect tourists from physical attacks and robberies so as to prevent potential damage to the Irish tourism industry in view of a series of attacks on tourists recently; (2) Deputy Deasy — whether the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs has received complaints from Irish travellers to and from Britain about the unpleasant attitude of a number of British immigration and police officers; (3) Deputy Gay Mitchell — the reason persons who have a mild physical disability are not allowed take the full manual driving test and are confined to automatic cars in their driving test as in the case of a person (details supplied); and the need to ensure that this system is changed; (4) Deputy Byrne — the reopening of the gymnasium and the extension of the metalwork room at Ramsgrange Community School, Ramsgrange, New Ross, County Wexford; (5) Deputy Doyle — the fears of the residents of Cahor Village, Gorey, County Wexford, due to ongoing coastal erosion threatening their homes and their village; (6) Deputy Batt O'Keeffe — the need to approve the appointment of speech therapists in the Cork area where there are in excess of 1,000 persons on the Southern Health Board waiting list; (7) Deputy Jim Higgins — the refusal to give special consideration in the leaving certificate examination to a person (details supplied) with a proven specific learning difficulty; (8) Deputy Sheehan — the need to progress Caheragh group water scheme, County Cork; (9) Deputy Molloy — the need to provide a prefabricated classroom at Tooreeney national school, County Galway, from the commencement of the school year in September 1993, to cater adequately for the 71 pupils who will be attending this two-classroom national school from that date; (10) Deputy O'Leary — the need for the purchase by the State of the Waller estate at Dromore, Kenmare, County Kerry, which is due to be sold at auction shortly, in view of the importance of this estate which consists of 50 acres of land, Dromore Castle and a world renowned fishery river; (11) Deputy Michael McDowell — the detention of a person (details supplied) under the Prevention of Terrorism Act after his arrest at Heathrow Airport on 27 April 1993; (12) Deputy Broughan — the Baldoyle flooding tragedy; (13) Deputy Gallagher (Laoighis-Offaly)— the urgent need to sanction the group water scheme for Tinnycross, Tullamore, County Offaly, given the serious pollution of the local groundwater which is causing distress to residents of the local area; (14) Deputy Sargent — the resources available to the Wildlife Service and if the Minister for Finance has any plans to upgrade the service in the Dublin area which at present is covered by one officer who is often called to surrounding counties as well; (15) Deputy Seán Kenny — the report requested by the Minister for the Environment on the flooding at Baldoyle on 11 to 13 June 1993; (16) Deputy Cullen — the circumstances surrounding the decision of the AST Research Company of California to suspend discussions with the IDA for three months following on their acquisition of the Tandy Corporation including its Kilbride, Scotland, plant which has resulted in the Clonmel project with a projected 1,214 jobs not going ahead as previously planned; (17) in view of the tragic death from drowning of a young boy in Baldoyle, County Dublin, the need for immediate funding to carry out the flood relief project of Dublin County Council; (18) Deputy Callely — the issue to staff of protective notice and proposed short time working, said to be due to business and cash flow difficulties, while at the same time, Aer Lingus commuter aircraft are going overseas for maintenance; (19) Deputy Rabbitte — the need for financial and other assistance for those whose homes were badly damaged by serious flooding in Clondalkin and other areas of Dublin last weekend; (20) Deputy Keogh — the serious flooding in Baldoyle, County Dublin, and matters arising therefrom; (21) Deputy McGrath — the closure of Athlone, County Westmeath, court-house in July 1992, by order of the District and Circuit Court judges and the steps the Minister for Justice proposes to provide court facilities in Athlone; (22) An Teachta Éamonn Ó Cuív — na plean-anna atá ag an Aire Oideachais le Buan-chóireacht a chur ar fáil do Ghaelscoil Dara Ar an Rinn Mhóir, Contae na Gail-limhe; (23) Deputy Flanagan — the serious flooding of the Tullamore River, County Offaly, and consequent hardship experienced by farmers in the area of Cappincur, and the Meelaghans as well as flooding of houses at Whitehall and Daingean Road in the town of Tullamore; (24) Deputy Theresa Ahearn — the lack of regulations imposing an obligation on builders and/or suppliers of double/glazed windows and doors to install adequate ventilation systems at the time of fitting in view of the very serious risk of fatalities, as illustrated by a double tragedy in south Tipperary recently; (25) Deputy Crawford — the action the Minister for Health intends to take in relation to the waiting lists for orthodontic treatment in view of the case of a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies: Deputies Cullen, Gay Mitchell, Doyle and O'Leary.
