Vol. 432 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sale of Greencore Shares.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

40 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Finance the up-to-date position regarding the progress of the various inquiries being made by the Attorney General, the Irish Stock Exchange and the UK authorities in respect of the handling by Davy Stockbrokers of the sale of Greencore shares.

The investigation by the International Stock Exchange of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland Limited into the conduct of Davy Stockbrokers in relation to the placing of the State's residual holding in Greencore plc. is continuing. I have no information as to when it is likely to complete its work.

The investigation conducted by the Attorney General, in his capacity as legal adviser to the Government to review the factual circumstances of the placing from a legal point of view and to advise me has been concluded. The Attorney General has furnished me with his report and advice and I intend reporting to the Government at the appropriate time.

The Deputy will appreciate that all of this relates to matters of contract and Stock Exchange practice and procedure. In the circumstances, and having regard to the ongoing Stock Exchange investigation I am precluded from discussing or publishing anything from the Attorney General's report touching upon these matters.
