Vol. 432 No. 3

Written Answers. - Review of Case of UDR Four.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

57 Mr. Sargent asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has written to the British Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to seek a review of the case of Neil Lattimer of the so-called UDR four, as there are allegations of police misconduct during his interrogation.

Consistent with our concern to ensure the widest possible level of public confidence in the administration of justice we have, on a number of occasions, made inquiries about the case of the UDR Four through the framework of the Anglo-Irish Agreement. With regard to the question of police conduct, I understand that, following the judgment of the Court of Appeal in this case, a file on the matter is with the Northern Ireland Director of Public Prosecutions.
