Vol. 432 No. 3

Written Answers. - Prize Bonds.

Enda Kenny

Question:

75 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Finance the number and value of Prize Bonds in existence at present; the amount offered in prize money on a monthly basis; the amount unclaimed on such draws; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are now 18.75 million Prize Bonds. The cash value of these is £93.8 million approximately.

Draws are held weekly for prizes ranging in value from £100 to £15,000. In addition, one jackpot prize of £100,000 is awarded in the first weekly draw held each month. The total value of the prizes in the current month (June 1993) is £437,200.

The amount of the unclaimed prizes at end-May 1993 was £433,000 approximately. Every prize winner is notified by post at the last address supplied to the Prize Bond Company, but difficulties in locating prize winners can nevertheless arise especially in the case of old Bonds. A full list of Prize Bond numbers with outstanding prizes is published periodically in the national press, most recently on 11 April 1993.
