Question:67 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice if she will give a list of the most abused drug substances that are known to the Garda in the Dublin area; and whether these drugs are home produced or imported.
Written Answers. - Drug Abuse.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that the main drug of abuse in the Dublin area is cannabis resin which accounts for about 75 per cent of all seizures of drugs. There is also abuse of heroin, cocaine, ecstacy and LSD but abuse of these drugs is of a lesser scale.
Illicit drugs are imported into this country mainly from the United Kingdom, the European Mainland and Morocco. The Garda inform me that there are no indications that illicit substances are being produced in Ireland.
