Vol. 432 No. 5

Written Answers. - False Insurance Claims.

Seán Barrett

Question:

38 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for Justice the proposals, if any, she has to introduce legislation making it an offence to submit a false or exaggerated insurance claim whether submitted by a claimant and/or his medical, financial or legal adviser who colludes with him; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The question of introducing new dishonesty or fraud-related legislation is considered in detail in the reports of the Advisory Committee on Fraud and the Law Reform Commission on the Law Relating to Dishonesty. I am currently considering their recommendations, in line with the commitment in the Programme for a Partnership Government, and I will announce my proposals in the normal manner in due course.
