Vol. 432 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dental Service.

Enda Kenny

Question:

84 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Health if he has satisfied himself with the level of dental service currently being supplied in the Bangor, Belmullet and Glenamoy areas of County Mayo; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that health board clinics exist in these locations; if he will have arrangements made to provide the Western Health Board with the necessary facilities to operate an effective dental service for children and adults in this North Mayo area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Dental services in the Bangor, Belmullet and Glenamoy areas are provided by the Western Health Board from Belmullet Dental Clinic. School children from the area are screened for the provision of dental treatment in second and sixth classes and treatment is provided as necessary. An emergency service is provided to medical card holders at all clinics throughout the Mayo community care area but routine adult dental services have had to be restricted until the post of dental surgeon in the Belmullet area has been filled by the board.
