Vol. 432 No. 6

Written Answers. - Heritage Projects.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

181 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if a person (details supplied) in County Kildare qualifies for any grant aid for the purpose of restoration of a heritage type house in an area designated as disadvantaged, the purpose of the proposal being to promote tourism in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The National Heritage Council distributes national lottery funds, subject to my approval, to heritage projects, including architectural projects, which come within its specific terms of reference. The procedure is that applicants must complete a detailed application form and, in the case of architectural projects, submit an architect's report, drawings and a detailed breakdown of cost. I have asked for an application form to be forwarded to the person referred to by the Deputy.

All applications to the National Heritage Council are considered on their own merit. The assessment of applications and decision about whether or not to recommend grant assistance are matters entirely for the council.
