Vol. 432 No. 7

Written Answers. - Rathfarnham (Dublin) Houses.

Alan Shatter

Question:

30 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make available funding for the refurbishment of 70 houses in Tara Hill Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14, as requested by Dublin Corporation in December 1989; if so, when funds will be made available; the reason for the delay in responding to the corporation's request; and if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the delay in providing the necessary funds is causing inconvenience and distress to a number of residents of Tara Hill and will also result in more substantial expense being incurred by way of refurbishment works than would have arisen if the funding requested had been made available earlier.

Dublin Corporation have sought funding under the remedial works scheme in respect of thirteen of their housing estates, including Tara Hill Estate. The ten estates to which the corporation gave the highest priority have been designated for funding under the scheme, two of them on the basis of the priority given to them by the corporation in April, 1993. Due to the financial commitments outstanding on the approved corporation projects and the high level of demand for assistance under the scheme for local authorities generally, it is not possible at this stage to designate further corporation estates.
