Vol. 433 No. 5

Written Answers. - Safety of Gay/Lesbian Persons.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

59 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to introduce measures to ensure the safety of gay and lesbian persons in the wake of the murder of five gay men by a serial killer in London.

As the House will be aware, the crime situation in Ireland is closely monitored by the Garda authorities and all appropriate action is taken by me to deal with any specific problems that arise. Whenever the Gardai become aware that any particular individual or group of individuals are, or are likely to be, the subject of threat — and no such information exists in relation to gay and lesbian persons here — they take the appropriate measures to deal with the matter.
