Vol. 433 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Sligo Postal Sorting Facilities.

Edward Nealon

Question:

111 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if, in view of the fact that sorting facilities are being withdrawn from a number of sub-post offices in the south Sligo area and in other parts of the country, he will have arrangements made to have a Postal Users Council established on the same lines as the promised Telecommunications Service Users Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The provision of postal sorting facilities in particular areas is a matter for An Post in accordance with its statutory function of providing a national postal service. I am satisfied that the establishment of a Postal Users Council, on the lines suggested by the Deputy, is not warranted.
